You’ve probably thought to yourself “Wow, this music video or this movie is incredible”, at least once in your life. Amazed by the storyline and the visuals, you sat watching intently at how awesome it all is. But behind the scenes this is an industry that is built on very hard work. Here’s a story of a Producer and Director who started his career from scratch.
Rami Yasin has been passionate about making films since childhood. He always had an idea that camera, cinema, fiction, and storytelling are the best way to communicate with the world. Although Yasin’s life journey has not been smooth, with many challenges that led to a roller coast ride of ups and downs, despite it all of he never lost track of his dream nor ever gave up.
In 1989, Rami completed his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Richmond, The American International University in London followed by a Diploma in Writing for Film and TV from the reputable Vancouver Film School. After spending 8 years as a Strategic Planner in a global advertising agency, working on top international brands like Coca-Cola and BMW amongst many, he joined Filmworks Dubai in 2001 where he worked for more than 8 years as a Director, Producer, Executive Producer and Head of Production, bringing him closer to where he wanted to be. Dedication, focus and hard work started paying off. He finally left the advertising world and joined Imagenation Abu Dhabi in 2010 as their head of production to produce their first Arabic language feature film. Since then, working independently Rami produced over 10 highly successful independent films that have travelled the world in prestigious festivals such as Berlin, Toronto and Venice international film festivals amongst many more. More recently he wrote and directed his first short “In Overtime” which had its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival as well as writing and directing his first feature length film Bloodline, a horror drama and vampire story that is a first of its kind from the Arab world.
For Rami films are a way to entertain audiences while attempting to inspire them with a new idea or open their minds to a certain truth or share an in-depth exploration of the human condition. “There is no better universal language” he added. “Films break boundaries and bring us closer to one another”. During his 30 year journey which was fraught with countless challenges, He never lost sight of his dream, nor was he afraid of falling and making mistakes. “When you have faith in yourself and trust your drive to pour all your energy into your dream, the universe listens and despite it sounding like a cliché, hard work eventually pays off. And mistakes are only opportunities to learn and grow”.
